I take the boys for walks nearly every morning lately with the dogs, and happened to have my phone handy when we walked past a family of burrowing owls. I snapped off shots as quickly as possible before they took off in flight to avoid my dogs which started barking at them.
They are really cool looking and very small for owls, they are about a foot tall at most and they just stare and cock their heads when you walk by. They live in an undeveloped water runoff area near the community and I remember when the babies where nesting in the ground with fur on their heads instead of feathers yet.
