Best Selling Plasma HDTV on Amazon

Ironic that the best selling 3D HDTV on Amazon isn’t an LED TV but a 65 inch Plasma TV.  The [easyazon-link asin=”B004MME76U”]Panasonic VIERA TC-P65ST30 65-Inch 3D Plasma HDTV[/easyazon-link] has 218 5 star reviews.  There are quite a few feedback statements regarding some brightness fluctuation and many have stated you need to run some calibrations against it and should not be using it out of box for all your movie watching needs.

I have read that the fluctuating brightness issue has been fixed and most of the later reviews don’t mention this issue any longer.  But I am still surprised that a Plasma TV is still so strong in the running against LED TV’s being that most presumed LED/LCD would replace Plasma TV’s.

[easyazon-image-link asin=”B004MME76U” alt=”Panasonic VIERA TC-P65ST30 65-Inch 1080p 600 Hz 3D Plasma HDTV” src=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41dpopxPFBL.jpg” align=”center” width=”500″ height=”336″]

Of course at under $1,700 for a 65″ 1080P HDTV you are looking at a plasma TV that is almost a grand cheaper than some LED/LCD HDTV models and who would have thought plasma TV’s would have come down that much?

This TV also boasts having the following feature:

3D 24p Cinema Smoother

VIERA incorporates technology that analyzes picture information in both the preceding and succeeding frames, and creates a precise supplementary frame between them. This suppresses the jerky effect seen in movies so playback is smooth and natural-looking. The distinctive tonal qualities and atmosphere of the movie are preserved and you enjoy extremely lifelike 3D images.

What do you think, if you were going to upgrade to a big screen 3D HDTV would you be looking at plasma or LED/LCD?

5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons

Back in January 2012 Wizards of the Coast announced that they will be working on developing the 5th Edition of Dungeons and Dragons this spring starting by taking feedback from the gaming community through play testing, article here: http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20120109.

I haven’t played Dungeons and Dragons in several years but still have about 30+ books on 3.0/3.5 Ruleset which was ideal. I never liked what I read with 4th Edition and recently have been missing the old fashioned tabletop RPG.

[easyazon-image-link asin=”1601251505″ alt=”Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Core Rulebook” src=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61MfdvDJtdL.jpg” align=”center” width=”382″ height=”500″]

I learned that many people defected from Wizards of the Coast Dungeons and Dragons to a D20 3E rules offshoot called Pathfinder by Paizo though I haven’t had the time to look at the system.  Of course I realize with a full time job, family, blogging, plus some PC gaming I didn’t really have time to fit in old school RPG gaming anymore and if I seriously wanted to take up this hobby again I have to diminish my activities in one of my after hours hobbies.

My eight year old has expressed interest in playing D&D many times over the past few years and we even did the basic board game a few times, but my 5 year old still doesn’t have the patience to sit down and just use paper/figures and imagination for more than 10-15 minutes in one sitting.  So it kind of delayed me from getting back into it until both of my kids are old enough to give it a true go around.  I was probably 10 years old when I started with Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and it became a multi-decade fixation of mine that only ended sometime after my youngest was born in 2003.

Then of course came blogging, this hobby kind of overtook all other after hour obsessions for me and though it makes me some decent side income it doesn’t qualify as a hobby or fun much anymore, there is too much work involved and it feels a lot like a 2nd job than a fun hobby which is probably why I am yearning for some gold old fashioned gaming again.

Blog Theme Woes Resolved

I was having assorted theme issues recently on DragonBlogger.com with my featured slider and category highlights bars being broken on my homepage for non-logged in users.  This happened when I switched from the Sharebar plugin to the Digg Digg WordPress plugin and I worked with both the Theme Developer and Digg Digg team to find a solution, but it was the Theme developer who pointed me to W3 Total Cache as being the potential culprit.

In the end I was able to trace the issue and confirmed the problem was with the Minify functionality of W3 Total Cache causing my featured sliders to break but only when Digg Digg was enabled.  I am still not sure why the combination of Digg Digg + Minify broke the featured sliders, but either way I disabled Minify and corrected other issues on my blog.

I also took the opportunity to update the theme files to the latest version of the theme but forgot to keep track of all my customizations to single.php, header.php and footer.php which caused me to have to manually correct all my files to add in my customizations again which was a time consuming process.

Combine this with me rebuilding my home PC Operating System to my new SSD drive and I had an extremely busy week in my off hours which involved me getting up early and working late nights.

Humanity Headed for Cyborgism?

With nanotechnology reaching new capabilities constantly and humanity’s ability to literally start architecting electronics at the atomic level one can only wonder at what point to we start to augment our species to become something greater than an organic being?  Science Fiction writers foresaw worlds where engineered nano-bots could provide humans with superior strength, augment our memories or improve storage in our minds by instilling hard drives directly hardwired into our brains (thanks Johnny Mnemonic).

For medical purposes computerized nano-cells will be smart enough to traverse your blood stream and eliminate cancer cells, soon this will translate into nano cells that can zap and remove body fat or even reverse telomere damage in other cells?  Imagine having a host of nano bots that flow with your normal blood, do not expire and can target destroy imperfections, repair vascular damage, clear arteries and so much more before you ever start to show symptoms of illness.

I do not believe it is impossible for humanity to greatly extend lifespan into where over a hundred years is the normal for those who have the finances to procur this future techno-medicine.  We will in essence become a cyborgism, cybernetic organisms which are capable of more than what nature and biology could accomplish on it’s own.

I think this is an inevitability in maybe generations that start 40 or 50 years from now, but not something we will see in our generation or at least not until the very end of our generation.  Overpopulation and resource limitations will be the limiting factor for humanity to achieve extended lifespans.  There needs to be sustainable endless energy and food sources and as many scientists have pointed out, humans need to colonize other plants if we have any chance of surviving as a species in the event Earth itself suffers an unrecoverable catastrophe.

The question is, where do you want society to be?  Is this a direction you want humans to go?  I am all for curing diseases and every person having the right to a full and healthy life, but what about the suffering in countries not as cushy as the modern societies?  Humanity needs to be treated as a whole and until the world is on the same page we should only look to improve the lives of the people suffering the most instead of extending the capabilities of the wealthy who could afford it.  Though wealth currently doesn’t always buy the best health, with all the money Steve Jobs had he was unable to buy a cure for his pancreatic cancer.  This will however change in the future, we are on the borderline where cures for virtually anything can be programmed into nano-bots and once this technology is created and perfect it means that wealth will be able to buy extended lifespans beyond anything previously imaginable unless an accident should occur.

If you could, would you purchase a guaranteed 100+ years of life with some nano-cell implants that could prevent disease, obesity, improve health, strength?  The question is what would you do for 100 years, can you work enough to make a living that long, can you provide for a family that long, can you put enough away so you don’t work yourself until you are 100?  We know people work day after day 1 or 2 jobs for a few decades hoping to retire, but what if there was no retirement and you worked for a full century just to make ends meet?

Eating the Pizza Nova in Solana Beach

My wife recently started a gluten free diet and this means we get to go out and try various restaurants that serve gluten free foods.  Pizza places are in particular of interest as her quest to find the best gluten free pizza dough’s is an important one.

Well, Pizza Nova may have taken the cake for having the best Gluten Free Pizza out of all the places in Arizona and Encinitas we have tried so far to date.

Their Wood fired pizza’s are thinner but not cracker thin crusts, the Gluten free crust is thinner than the regular pizza crust and has herbs baked into the crust.  My wife raved about the gluten free pizza crust and took the leftovers home.

Meanwhile I tried their “Pizza Nova” the pizza named for the restaurant, this pizza came with Smoked Salmon, capers, Fontina, Mozzarella and Goat cheeses with red onions and scallions.  The pizza was delicious, flavorful and I didn’t honestly expect the 3 cheeses to work as well with the smoked salmon as it actually did.

Highly recommended that if you want some unique wood fired pizza or are looking for really great Gluten Free Pizza you should try Pizza Nova in Solana Beach.

Potential PR Nightmare: A Blog Engage Story

Aye Carumba is all I can say, this is a PR nightmare for any company honestly and I think it started with a simple miscommunication. This started with an article written by Jane Sheeba about why she cancelled her Blog Engage RSS Syndication Membership and the responses she received.  Due to a series of miscommunications originally by email a customer who wasn’t feeling she was getting enough value out of the service was lead to post an article which fueled quite a comment fire from both sides (supporters and opposers).

I have known Brian and used BlogEngage for several years, I have no indication that he isn’t anything but respectful toward others, but he has a 0 tolerance for network abuse.  In the case of what is conveyed here, I think he chose a poor choice of words by suggesting Jane "writing about something else" this could be taken to be offensive, but likely wasn’t meant to be.

image

Honestly, I have the most # of articles submitted out of anyone to BlogEngage, I am in the #1 spot of submissions, but only about a 22% publication rate of my articles.  This is because Blog Engage still caters to mostly "blogging, seo, social media" niche, my tech articles and my gaming rarely see publication.  My personal blog occasionally and every once in a while one of my poems from my poetry blog reaches publication.  This doesn’t mean we should change topic because gaming articles don’t get published, instead it means the audience/membership for these other niches/categories needs to increase to help balance out the system which was very blogger focused originally.

As far as the RSS Syndication plans, I do pay the $29.99 monthly membership, BlogEngage used to by my #7 traffic referrer per month, now it doesn’t make top 10, it accounts for less than .05% of my site traffic, but the links alone, showcases and the AWESOME guest blogging contests were more than enough for me to continue support.  Also Brian keeps trying to innovate and find new ways to provide value for his syndication members, he experiments and keeps trying to come up with additional compelling benefits.  It is an entrepreneurial business and there are always trials and errors, everyone has a right to cancel at any time and for any reason.  There should never ever be any hostility toward a customer who cancels, always just use it as an opportunity to get feedback and learn and perhaps tune business to be more optimal for future customers.

Brian made a valid comment in the article that the CPC ratio from Blog Engage is better than that you would find with AdWords and you get all the benefits of the backlinks too, but $29.99 per month just may be too rich for some peoples blood.  Honestly, I spent $50 per month in BuySellAd purchases on other sites with hundreds of thousands of pageviews, and I saw more benefit from the Blog Engage RSS Syndication than from purchasing random 125×125 banner ads on sites, so I just reduced my advertising budget to cover the RSS Syndication Plan fee’s.

This is one of the reasons why I am glad I don’t run a service over at DragonBlogger.com and I just do information articles, if I had a service or product that I created myself and sold I would be solely responsible for giving exceptional support and I like anyone else could make a misstep that could lead to negative experience backlash.

Haggo’s Organic Taco Shop in Encinitas

Had the pleasure of eating at Haggo’s Organic Taco shop in Encinitas over the weekend and can honestly say that the fresh organic corn taco’s were among the best I had ever eaten.

This small little place which is located near Leucadia Blvd and North Coast Highway is tucked away next to a plant store (which has good deals on plants by the way).

The menu is small but everything is fantastic, they come with your Fish, Carne Asada and Pollo taco’s, but are served with organic brown rice and organic red beans instead of Mexican rice and Pinto or Black beans.

All meat is non-GMO and hormone free, and the fish is fresh and changes often.  The fresh cilantro, tomatoes and lettuce on the chicken taco’s was wonderful and the red cabbage on the Carne Asada taco really added something.

My wife really enjoyed their Yellow Split Pea soup which was Vegan and Gluten free.

If you are near Carlsbad or Encinitas then you owe it to yourself to stop by Haggo’s Organic Taco shop and try some delicious taco’s.  They are only open from 11am to 3pm so they are a lunch place only.

Getting to Know the English Bulldog

The English Bulldog can be traced back over centuries. In fact, the first literary use of the term “Bulldog” appeared in the 1500s.

What’s in a Name

The English Bulldog is a decedent of the Asiatic Mastiff from the British Isles. The fact this breed of dog looks much like a small, robust bull, and would play an instrumental role in Bull Baiting Games, the dog earned the name Bulldog.

[easyazon-image-link asin=”B004ODJIRU” alt=”Bulldog Archival Photo Poster Print – 13×19″ src=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/412NJ2uaugL.jpg” align=”center” width=”400″ height=”274″]

The Littlest Bull Fighter

English Bulldogs have the power to attack full-grown bulls, due to the aggressive and courageous attitudes they exhibit. These dogs would attack bulls from the underside finishing at the neck, which made it near impossible for a bull to fight back. However, it was not unheard of for a bull to maim or kill several dogs during a single event, by goring, tossing or trampling the dogs to death. Bull and Bear Baiting Games have been illegal since the Cruelty to Animals Act passed in 1835.

Physical Characteristics

The English Bulldog is medium sized and compact with short legs; the head is massive with extra skin, both on the skull and forehead, which falls into folds around the face.

Their short flat coat is straight and lays smooth and glossy over their entire body. Their coats come in a variety of colors red, brindle, solid white, solid red, fawn, fallow and piebald, pale yellow, washed out red or white and a variation of all these colors.

English Bulldogs can be intimidating, even though they are small in stature; but they are among some of the gentlest dogs. They will make impressive watchdogs with their guarding abilities; no one wants to mess with a dog, which is capable of fighting off a bull. This breed has a tendency to snore very loudly; they also tend to drool and slobber and are usually messy eaters.

Height: Male and females both stand 12 to 16 inches; the shorter Bulldogs are more popular when being shown in competition.

Weight: Males are 53 to 55 lbs.; Females are 49 to 51 lbs.

The females will need to have their pups delivered by caesarian section, due to the fact their pups have such large heads and the average littler size is 4 to 5 pups.

Grooming Requirements

Grooming takes very little effort. The face will need to be cleaned with a damp cloth daily to clean the underside of their wrinkles. This breed falls into the average shedder category. Bulldogs require baths only when necessary to help reduce skin irritation.

Common Health Problems

The more common health problems shared by Bulldogs may include breathing problems, poor eyesight, and they are susceptible to heat stroke in warm weather or while being left in hot vehicles.  They are susceptible to skin infection, hip and knee problems and are prone to flatulence, which occurs when they eat anything other than their regular diet.

Is this the Pet for You?

English Bulldogs are popular among apartment or condominium dwellers, they tend to be inactive indoors, they do not require a yard in which to exercise, they will however, need to go for daily walks.

English Bulldogs need to know their owners take the lead. Begin training early by teaching them to enter and exit doorways and gateways after their owners, not before. They should be on a leash, while on their walks, because they can move very quickly when they get the urge to do so.
