Testing a Podcast with Behringer Podcast Kit

For my birthday which is Tuesday, my wife bought me the Behringer Podcast Kit and I decided to take it for a spin. It comes with a high quality microphone, headphones and a Xenyx 502 Mixer with Mic preamp. After tweaking Windows Vista for about an hour (My control panel kept crashing, turned out to be a bad .cpl file in my \windows\system32 directory). I was able to get my USB mic configured and setup, then it took another 1/2 hour fiddling with Audacity to get it to recognize and use the mic.

Here was my test podcast using this new birthday gift, I intend to use it to make more screencast training demonstrations and post them on YouTube and in my blogs.

Looking good. The only thing I was lacking for 6 months was the mixer. I tried everything until I learned I had to get a mixer. I can see your kit has one :) Your mic sounds great. I would try to equalize the intro / salutation music levels with your voice as the music is a lot louder. This has been one of my main problems so don’t feel I am criticizing. I look forward to what you come up with regarding the podcsasting! Kudos to your wife, she apparently knows what you like.

Yeah, I am still finding that the mic levels are a little hard to control. If I turn it up to loud I get buzz and echo, yet moderately I have to keep my mouth so close to get it loud enough, hard to move around while talking. Just a matter of experimenting, what audio program do you use to record and cut the audio together? I am using Audacity which is free, but not sure if I should be using something else.
