Short Weekend and a Happy Halloween

Have had a stiff neck all weekend and am going to desperately try to get a Chiropractic appointment in today if I can.  Also ate some food which upset my stomach yesterday so had to sleep on floor last night and feeling generally miserable all around.

I am hoping to feel better to take the kids trick or treating this afternoon as I promised to hit as many houses as possible.  Not only do they want the treats (we don’t let them keep that many), but a local Dental office is giving $1 per pound of candy that is brought in from kids.  My kids are hoping to collect 5-10 pounds of candy each so they can get the $5 – $10 from the Dentist office.

They care more about trading the candy in for some cash than the candy itself which is kind of funny.  Meanwhile, I don’t eat too much candy myself though my weakness is Twizzlers and I tend to keep and consume every Twizzler that collects in any trick or treat bags.

Anyway, though the weekend in Encinitas was great (minus my stiff neck) came back already needing recovery.  Here’s to hoping the adjustment fixes my neck problems (which I think I hurt working out last week).

Halloween Time Again

Looking forward to taking my boys trick or treating this afternoon, my boys have elected to go as Mario and Luigi for Halloween and they make such a great matching pair.  Meanwhile, illness delayed carving pumpkins until the day before Halloween and I just didn’t have the oomph to do something overly creative like my gory pumpkin from two years ago.

Something interesting this year, there is a dental clinic in Casa Grande that will pay kids $1 for every pound of Halloween candy they turn in.  We are going to have our kids keep only a handful of candy and turn in the rest and get some money instead.  This way they earn some money and don’t end up with an overindulgent pile of candy that will rot their teeth and tempt them into poor(er) eating habits.

Hope everyone has a safe Halloween tonight, make sure if going out after dark that you wear reflectors and light clothing.

Here were the pics of our pumpkins this year:

My wife made a Pirate pumpkin, while I made a 4 eyed spider pumpkin with mandibles.  My eldest son worked on a Demon pumpkin, while I helped my youngest with a traditional little pumpkin.

Carving Halloween Pumpkins

I have always liked carving pumpkins, and I am not a master artist. I don’t use templates I try to freehand and use raw creativity. My wife and son do their pumpkins and last year I created my “gory” pumpkin which was one of my most creative ever. I used almost a whole box of staples for this bad boy.

Gory Pumpkin

Taking a picture of him at night you can’t see his stapled eye or head, so I included the above photo showing how he looks close up in full daylight. I stuffed a whole string of red xmas lights inside his body, and then the night time photo gave a great effect of it looking gory.

Gory Pumpkin 2

I don’t know if I am going to do a pumpkin this year, though my son and wife are doing one tomorrow. I didn’t buy one for myself this year, though I wanted to do a “Pin Head” pumpkin with lines on his face and big flat head nails covering his entire face, I was worried the neighborhood kids would pull out the nails and I would have nothing but flat tires for Halloween this year.

So, let me see your best and most fun carved pumpkins. Share your pumpkin carvings with me, and post some pics everyone.
