About the MagicJack Give Away

Contest is Closed,

Congratulations to Vickie Bartlett who is the winner of the MagicJack chosen randomly by “Random.Org”

I have been using the MagicJack for several months and recently won a contest with one of my video’s that showcased the Magic Jack. As a result of my winning, I am now doing a follow up video to show you what the MagicJack looks like in the box and how to install it. This brief overview talks about the MagicJack, benefits and how easy it is to just plug into your computer and start using the device.

The MagicJack allows you to plug your home phone into the USB device and make local and long distance calls over the internet for free, in addition to having ridiculously cheap international rates. In addition to just making calls, you can do 2 way calling, setup a voicemail, your voice messages get sent to your email inbox as wav files so you can listen to them anytime you want and from anywhere if your email is forwarded to your mobile device. You can even choose your own phone number, and use the MagicJack to setup a toll free number if you want to run a toll free line without cost.

I use the MagicJack and am on the phone with it about 8 hours a day, it is my primary device for communication when I am at home. It does require that you have a broadband connection, and because the MagicJack is an application that runs on your PC it doesn’t fare well if someone is gaming on the internet at the same time on the same PC. It works better if the PC you are on is relatively idle while you are talking on the phone, I mean you can browse the internet, watch youtube video’s, blog, read articles, but I wouldn’t be playing World of Warcraft on the same PC that was running a MagicJack phone call unless you had a super powerful computer with lots of RAM.

It drops calls only occasionally, and usually it is because I was having problems with my internet connection anyway. It drops calls and has interference less frequently than my cell phone calls. The only negative thing about the MagicJack is you must have your computer on and powered in Windows to make phone calls on the internet, if your computer is down then you can’t make calls. So don’t think it can replace a cell phone for emergencies, you should have a backup phone in those cases.

Other than the honest information I gave above, the MagicJack is worth every penny. I was paying $18 per month on a basic land line phone in my home before I bought the MagicJack last year, and now I am only paying the $19.95 per year which is like paying less than $3 per month for the service.

In addition to showcasing the MagicJack, I am giving away 1 MagicJack to the winner of this contest, the winner will be selected randomly using Random.org but you can gain more than one entry to increase your odds of winning the device. The MagicJack includes 1 year of telephone service so you basically are entering a contest to win the USB device itself which includes the 1st year of phone calls for free. Being the fact that I will be paying for shipping myself, I will only pay to ship the device somebody in the United States, you are welcome to enter the contest if you live outside of the US, but you will have to front the shipping costs.

If you are interested in entering the contest you can gain an entry by doing one of the following:

(You can write your own tweet, but make sure you include my twitter ID (@dragonblogger, the URL above, and the #magicjackcontest) as part of the tweet)

You can gain a total of 8 entries into this contest, which greatly improves your odds of being picked if you perform all bullets.

This contest will run from January 5th and a winner will be chosen on January 15th. So let me know if you want to try and win MagicJack with free Internet telephone for a year.

Contest is now closed, Vickie Bartlett was chosen as the winner. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who entered the contest.

I would LOVE to win a magicjack.. my skype subscription just ran out, and I’m in the market for something else, and the MagicJack looks a little more practical for me

@Chris @Kylie – thank you both for entering the contest and good luck. I really like it, and with a cordless phone base with cordless phones you can have a phone in each room in the house using the 1 magicJack plugged into the computer.

This is a good idea and certainly VoIP is the way things are going to go – I use an online service that I can divert to a normal landline if I require or use a VoIP phone plugged into my router.

My issue is that the clarity seems to suffer, certainly with connection inconsistencies. Until this is really more reliable I will be staying away from this technology.

Perhaps it is only a problem as I am in the UK and our lines are very out of date!
